Would you rather have one best friend or ten acquaintances? Why?

If I only have one best friend then do I not get any acquaintances? Because that would be awful.
I choose ten acquaintances because then there would always be something to do. If one person was out of town or busy, there would always be someone else to hang out with. Also, I'd be willing to give up the best friend because I don't really *need* anyone to confide in because I mostly do whatever I want (without a second opionion) anyways.

1 best friend. Cause there's always going to be that 1 situation or more where you will need to count on the best friend no matter what. I'm fine on my own and could live without 10 acquaintances.

You must have never had a really good best bud. I'm like 5 peoples best friend. A good best bud is worth his or her weight in gold. Are you the type of girl that gets along better with guy friends or girl fiends? Who are you going to call if you're in jail because you exposed yourself at best buy? An acquaintance isn't going to want to pick you up at the airport or help you cover up a double murder. Who are you going to tell your secrets to? An acquaintance is gonna blab that shit to everyone. Superficial friendships are kinda boring to me. I like to really get to know people.

But what if you could have ONLY one friend - no others?! I would rather have more than one friend, even if we weren't as close.

I would still have to go with the one friend because hanging out with acquaintances would always be awkward because you don't really know them. It reminds me of that scene from pulp fiction.

Also, with acquaintances, you have to be on your best behavior. Things that might be cool to say with a best bud might not be appropriate with an acquaintance, if they don't know your sense of humor very well. I feel like sometimes I come off creepy to people that don't know me well. I would prefer to be with someone I can relax and be myself with.

I like the idea of a best friend, but I wonder if having just one friend would last? I could come across as pretty needy if practically all my social interactions were with just one person. ^_^

Acquaintances aren't too hard to come by, don't require any deep sharing, it's just fun. Yah, if tragedy strikes, they'll probably all abandon you... that's the trade off.

In the end, I'll pick one best friend, learn to give 'em space, and have plenty of lone time.

On the one hand one needs to know how to behave and smalltalk. ozu's filmography says that agreeing on small things (like the weather) is the start of bliss.

On the other hand, at times, it's vital to have a friend that would have the right to tell things on your life (whether you agree/comply or not). this right usually is gained with time.

why choosing between both?

I like the idea that acquaintances and best friendship are complementary.
